Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
In Matthew 19:14 we read, "Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'" Children matter to Jesus, and children matter to us at Zion. We want children to learn about Jesus at Zion, and an important way to do this is through age-appropriate Bible study. Read on to learn more about the Bible studies we have available for children. Note that you may be able to click on the group's title for more information.
Confirmation Class is a Bible-study class for children who are in 6th through 8th grades. It is taught by Pastor Schwertfeger and meets weekly late Wednesday afternoons during the school year. The students study the truths of God's Word, the Bible, to strengthen their Christian faith in preparation for leading a Christian life. Upon completion of this class the children are able to be "confirmed" in the Lutheran faith and join us for Holy Communion. Sunday School
Usually Sunday School is held from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Sunday mornings throughout the regular school year. Children ages 3 through 8th grade are invited to attend Sunday School; they are divided into classes by age. The "Lower Department" includes preschool through second grade, and the "Upper Department" includes grades three through eight. Each week in Sunday School the children focus on a particular Bible lesson. They learn how that story applies to them, and they may memorize important Bible passages that focus on the message of that week. Sunday School also includes music time and may include large group time as well. This year due to the coronavirus pandemic Sunday School is taking place virtually.
