Sunday School

Sunday School is held from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Sunday mornings throughout the regular school year.  Children ages three through 8th grade are invited to attend Sunday School; they are divided into classes by age.

Each week in Sunday School the children focus on a particular Bible story.  They learn how that story applies to them, and they may memorize important Bible passages that focus on the message of that week.  Sunday School also includes music time and may include large group time as well.

The Sunday School children have the opportunity to be involved in worship services throughout the year.  The children sing during church services several times a year, and on Christmas Eve a special service is held with the Sunday School children telling the story of the Christ Child's birth in words and song.

Some people think that Sunday School is an outdated concept, and that we don't really need it any more.  At Zion we highly value our Sunday School program and what a blessing it is for children and their families.  Bible stories are important for us to learn because they teach us Biblical truths that affect our daily lives not only as children, but also as adults.  When we face difficult times in our lives we can remember people in the Bible who were examples of faith.  When we need a Bible verse to comfort someone who is hurting that verse we learned in Sunday School pops into our heads.  And when we begin to doubt God's love for us we are reminded of those simple Bible truths that we learned in Sunday School.
