Scott Schwertfeger, Pastor

My name is Pastor Scott Schwertfeger, and I have been serving here at Zion since August 2010.  My training for the pastoral ministry really began in high school, when I attended Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown, Wisconsin.  Although I was from Mankato, Minnesota, the Lord led me to Northwestern Prep, a high school for those considering the preaching or teaching ministry.  From there I attended college at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota.  After graduating from there I went to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, graduating in 2004.  My first call as a pastor was to St. Jacob Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grass Lake, Michigan, where I served for six years before coming to Zion.

While I was an intern pastor (vicar) at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2003 I met and fell in love with my future wife, Laura.  Fortunately she fell in love with me, too!  We were married in 2004 and have been blessed with four children.

We live in DeForest, but we walk and hike everywhere.  We love country life and small town life, and at Zion we are happy to have a little of both.

Jacob Scott, Pastor

Hello, my name is Jacob Scott and I am excited to be the new pastor at Zion.

I was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Knowing the importance of a Christian education, my parents had me attend St. Stephen’s Lutheran School in Beaver Dam from kindergarten through eighth grade.  From St. Stephen’s, I went on to high school at Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, Wisconsin. There I became more and more interested in becoming a pastor. After high school, I went to Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota where my pastoral studies began. After four years in New Ulm, my pastoral education continued at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin. In my third year as a seminarian, I received my vicar call and served at Mountain of the Lord in Wausau, Wisconsin.  In May 2013 I graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and received my call to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Lord has truly blessed me with a great education and a wonderful church to serve.

On June 7th 2013, I was blessed to marry my wife Kayla. She graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran College and is a registered nurse. Kayla and I are more than excited to serve at Zion Lutheran, and we are enjoying getting to know everyone better.

Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? ~ Romans 8:34-35a
