Activities for Children & Families
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7
There's no doubt about it--children are a blessing from the Lord.  Yet raising a family is difficult in this day and age.  It is difficult to find enough time to do everything you want to do.  Time for work, time for your spouse, time for your children, time for yourself...  There are a million and one activities that seem to be demanding your time.  Is there enough time to do everything?  How do you know which activities to choose?

Consider what the Bible says.  What is your main responsibility to your children?  It is to "bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4).  Here at Zion we want to help our families grow in the Word of God.  We know you're busy, and that's why we try to provide activities for children and families that are worth your time.  Activities that are fun, activities that will help your family grow closer, and activities that will help your children--and you--grow in the knowledge of God's love.

Various events for families are scheduled throughout the year, but read on to learn about a few of them.  Please note that you may be able to click on the title of the activity for additional information.

Adventures in Christian Living (click for more info)

"Adventures in Christian Living," also referred to as a "Family Fellowship Event," is  a fun, family-centered group that meets monthly throughout the school year.  The goal of Adventures in Christian Living is to share the love of Jesus with children, thereby teaching children how to serve their Savior, their church, their families, and their community.  Through a variety of events and activities children are taught love for God, respect for his creation, skills for daily life, leadership principles, and more.  The Adventures in Christian Living group usually meets monthly on Thursday evenings (with dinner provided) or Sunday afternoons.  Children of all ages and their families are welcome to join us, but the activities are usually designed for preschool- to elementary school-age children.

Crossbridge - Teen Ministry

All teenagers, grade 7 through high school, are invited to join us as they travel over the bridge from child of Christ to adult witness of our wonderful God.  Crossbridge youth group connects teenagers to each other, to WELS members, and to God.  Crossbridge equips teens to grow in their faith, teaches them to offer themselves in service to God and enjoy their ministry in the church, and helps them to care for one another.  Crossbridge meets monthly; check the church calendar for the next Crossbridge activity.

Doughnut Days

Come to Zion on any given Sunday and you may hear a child whisper to his parents, "Is it doughnut day today?"  The second Sunday of each month between services we provide doughnuts and beverages in our gathering space.  Plan to stay a few extra minutes after the early worship service--or come a few minutes early before Sunday School and Adult Bible Class--to enjoy some good food and conversation.  This is a time where we can catch up on what's going on in each other's lives, and it is a favorite of children and adults alike.

Family Bible Nights (click for more info)

Zion's "Family Bible Nights" take place occasionally throughout the year, and they are really a family-inclusive version of the traditional Vacation Bible School.  The format may change somewhat from year to year, but our Family Bible Nights typically include fun, interactive Bible lessons for the kids and informative, helpful presentations for the parents.

Little Wonders Nursery

Little Wonders Nursery is open on Sundays from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. during the regular school year.  Located near the fellowship hall downstairs, Little Wonders Nursery is designed for children ages 0 through 3 whose parents/caregivers are attending Sunday Morning Bible Class.  The nursery is staffed by two volunteers each week.  It allows the children to play with age-appropriate toys and activities while giving the parents the opportunity to focus on Bible study.

Moms/Caregivers and Kids Group

Our Moms/Caregivers and Kids group meets the third Monday of each month (unless otherwise posted) from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at a member's home.  The goal for this program is to provide a relaxed, comfortable environment for moms or caregivers and their children to gather around God's Word together.  A short Bible story is shared with the children, followed by a devotion and discussion for the adults.  This is a time for caregivers to encourage and equip one another as they take on the important task of raising young children in a God-pleasing way.
